Lecture-Demonstration: Ballet for Humans and Sensors (2019) This is a multimedia choreographic piece for live dance and movement-reactive visuals. Multiple sensors track the dancers' movements and control the animated visuals that serve as the scenic backdrop for the ballet. The visuals are generated in real-time as the dance unfolds. HUMAN (2018) This full-evening ballet explors the uniquely human experience of not being able to know another person's mind. This ballet features original digital set design, and was created thanks to the Dance Visions Residency. Video link HERE
N O T H I N G T H A T I S N O T T H E R E (2017) This full-evening ballet is an aesthetic experiment in quantifiable artistic habits. Created in collaboration with mechanical engineer, Dr. Leslie Lamberson, the dancers' movement data was collected through wireless sensors. The data was then analyzed for patterns, and then used as inspiration to direct choreographic choices. The visuals were representations from that data as shown in software used by the scientist's lab. Video link HERE
NEURAL LACE (2018) This ballet, commissioned by University of the Arts, was inspired by the concept of neural networks and the mapping being conducted in current research. Video link HERE
A MIND OF WINTER (2017): This commissioned piece is an homage to the Wallace Stevens poem, The Snow Man, from which the title is derived. This work reflects of the ideas of other, perception, and emptiness evoked in the poem. Video link HERE
Ephemeral (2016) This full-evening ballet traversed the layered chrono-biologies of existence: seasons, the life and death of a star, the cycles of dormancy and rebirth. Video link HERE
2^57,885,161 - 1 (2015) At the time of the creation of this work, its title was the highest-known prime number in existence. Made in consultation with mathematician Derek Smith, this half-evening length piece was based in varous patterns and phenonema particular to prime number theory. This ballet was made with support from the Choreographers on Campus Residency. Video link HERE
SIMPLE RESTRICTIONS (2013) This ballet is structured on the hauntingly spare construction of Ligeti's Ricercata. Video link HERE
DIVERGENT ITERATION (2014) This ballet was constructed on the mathematical concept of the same name. Commissioned by Bryn Mar College. Video link HERE
Vested Souls (2010) This full-evening ballet uses chorographic algorithms and complex patterns to depict the inherent repetitions and patterns we construct for ourselves in life. This work was made possible through the New Edge Residency, funded through The Pew Center for Arts and Heritage. Video link HERE
